Why is it important to understand your prostate cancer?
Prof. Christian Stief, from Ludwig Maximillains University, Munich, Germany, talks about the importance of prostate cancer patients understanding the features of their cancer. This includes the PSA (prostate-specific antigen) and how the diagnosis has been made for their prostate cancer. This means how many cores have been retained in the prostate, how many of these cores have been affected by the cancer and the extent of the prostate cancer. It is important to have knowledge on the size and the specific cancer in order to get an idea if it is possible to live with the cancer while under active surveillance or whether the cancer has progressed and active treatment is required.
