Using Twitter to become a patient advocate

Speaking at the 2018 European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) Annual Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal, Cynthia Chmielewski of Patient Power, Bellevue, WA, offers a few tips and tricks on how to successfully build a Twitter account for patient advocacy. She explains how to professionally interact with doctors using social media in an appropriate manner. Ms Chmielewski explains how Twitter has helped her engage and actively take part in her own healthcare, and has now enabled her to network with healthcare professionals, not just as patient and doctor, but as two well informed individuals. As a result of her Twitter success, Ms Chmielewski has had the opportunity to talk on multiple platforms, such as her local multiple myeloma support group and being on the Board of Directors of the Myeloma Crowd, amongst other platforms.
